hello! i went to latitude and it was good and even though it rained it didn't get muddy (the suffolk soil is MAGIC) and i can't remember exactly what i saw when, but i know it included:

(basically, where there are gaps, assume we are listening to robin
ince shouting about natasha kaplinsky)

fri: richard dedomenici, quite a lot of sitting, DUCKWORTH/LEWIS METHOD who are GREAT,"bedtime story" which is Robin reading out a Horrid Henry story to 50 or 60 3-7 year olds and getting them to scream and shout (and SCREAM A BIT MORE) and invade the stage and leave them higher than kites just when perhaps they should be going to bed, the socialist trifecta of Mark Steel, Mark Thomas and Jeremy Hardy in the same day, pretenders, pet shop boys, mystery fax machine orchestra in a tent so small they take up more room than the audience.

sat: clive stafford-smith, david quantick talking to jonathon coe, stuart maconie talking to david morrisey and miranda sawyer, jeanne gruffalo DYING ON HER @SS and leaving the stage after 6 minutes (it would've been 3.5 minutes if the MC hadn't gone for a weewee), fever ray in stupid costumes, patrick wolf (where i bonded with the young man next to me who actually said "facepalm" to describe PW's incredible overreaching pretension), five minutes in the big tent where Guilty Pleasures was happening which is SO VERY SCARY (and also, frankly, skool disco, not GP) that we have to run away to the woods where club du fromage are playing pretty much the same records but to far fewer people.

sun: jake chapman (including hilarious "artists deaths" video and massive ten minute downpour), maggie philbin sheltering from the rain under a tree, kevin cummins talking about why he's fallen out with hooky, sean lock, slow club (the indie ting-tings, no come back, they are pretty good), karaoke circus which, despite my not getting to do pulp, is basically Indie Comedians Do Stars In Their Eyes, in a good way.

and loads and loads and loads of Book Club including nekkid pappy's fun club...

I dunno though, i liked it as a festival, but i don't rly see why ppl prefer places with only 25,000 people there in comparison to ones (ok, one) with 150,000. it's just a bit cosy and weird to me, but then glastonbury is my one true festival love and there's not a lot i can do about it.

also, for those of us going through the pleb gates the insistance that NO LIQUIDS could be taken in (i had to throw away half a cup of coffee) was a complete pain in the arse, also the compulsory bag searches. I can understand them not wanting glass in the arena, or people lugging in cases of carlsberg, but i really think the Lords way (as in the cricket ground, not "The Lord") of being able to take a couple of cans or a bottle of wine in is the best compromise, they can't be predicating their income on wet sales anyway, can they?

ALSO don't forget that it is DINOSAUR PLANET at the Wilmington tonight!!!
car
BUT

i was in/preparing to go to edinburgh to tech/direct @trevandsimon's show (can't imagine WHERE that came from...) BUT i'd also booked in to redo the show i took up in 1995 and there was discussion as to whether i could even remember any of it and i was like it'll be FINE and i think i added some half-interesting things (now unrememberable) into what was, frankly, a not very good show that in reality i can remember very little of...

SO

off to get rained on at latitude tomorrow and then, next tuesday, the DINOSAUR PLANET press launch at the Wilmington! do come, it is ACES and only £5 (for which you get added Chris T-T and AN BADGE and everything)
car
look it was all conceptual and everything, which i think is why i only go to the end of WEDNESDAY...

it's not that l, but you can dr if you want ;) )

Maybe I'll come back and fill in the gaps at some point...
car

pretty much all you need to know, right there :)

there is a SEKRIT DRESS REHEARSAL tomorrow night at the Lamb on Lamb's Conduit St, which is FREE, but for a reason as it's the first time it's been done all at once in front of an audience of more than 2 people and thus might need a bit of tweaking...

alternatively there is the Official Launch Party at the Wilmington on Tuesday 21st which also features CHRIS T-T doing his Improvised Piano Solos (no, really). you can buy tickets if you want as well.

[livejournal.com profile] plumsbitch did a meme, and [livejournal.com profile] ultraruby did a meme and [livejournal.com profile] roy_dcour did a meme and [livejournal.com profile] exliontamer did a meme, so i thought, why not? it'll make this giant pile of data entry/checking more fun...

(1) Turn on your music player or computer
(2) Go to SHUFFLE songs mode,
(3) Write down the first 30 songs that come up--song title and artist--NO editing/cheating, please. ...

OR RATHER BLAH BLAH RULES: DO WHAT YOU LIKE, DO IT, OR NOT, BUT I'M INTERESTED IN PEOPLES PLAYLISTS....

The only important rule is, I think: NO EDITS FOR CREDIBILITY, RIGHT?"

not as indie as i was expecting... )

So, because my work computer has no sound card in it i NEED some way of listening to Test Match Special at work (and other places not my house actually), but what is the best option? which is more likely to be switched off first, DAB or LW???? I read articles that says that DAB is bobbins and a betamaxy kind of product, and that it might be superceded...

[Poll #1414762]

what i SHOULD'VE DONE was pick up one of the SIX radiogrammes* (actually 5 radiogrammes and one TELEVISIONRADIOGRAMME!!!!) that were being skipped up the road from my house last week, but i thought, nah, don't need more cr@p in my house. also not very portable...

ANYWAYS the thing is, FB invites are TOTALLY NOT WORKING, which means that YOU do not know that myself and my good lady wife shall be tagteam DJing this sunday at the always delightful HANGOVER LOUNGE:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=102293761041

at the LEXINGTON on penton st from 2ish to 7ish. they have Lovely* American Beer and even an ale on tap now too.

there are sofas for lounging (or indeed lunging as i first typed) on and assorted newspapers to read. who knows, i might even bring my backgammon set if anyone fancies a game?

it would be lovely if you could pop along, even just for a bit :)

morning all!

we had our first Proper Meeting in the curiously deserted Banker last night, which was basically just a HEY, LET'S GET EXCITED ABOUT STUFF meeting as we already have:

venue
accommodation
travel
flyer (see above)

and SHOW

sorted (well, i haven't cast my directorly eye over the show yet, but hibbett is confident)

so it was all the fun things like previews and publicity and extra gigs (no to the royal mile, possibly yes to late and live type things if we can find them) and exactly how much IS too much to pay for a dinosaur costume for me...

also i think the brochure is out today, so will be tracking one down (donmar usually has a stash) and seeing if I can find Other Shows at least tenuously About Dinosaurs as if there are three it is A TREND and we can flog it to feature writers...

so burnham's gone to health and denham's gone to communities & lg, so who's doing DCMS and DIUS then????

ETA: BEN BRADSHAW to DCMS!!!! blimey...

hold on, beckett "no longer housing", where's she going? not DIUS, pleeeeeeease...

Edit2 also is a projected share of Tories: 38%, Libs: 28%, Lab 23% enough for a tory government? i thought they HAD to be in the low 40s to get a majority?

Edit3 Mcnulty resigns from cabinet as well??? FFS, wouldn't it be a lot easier just to PUT THEM ALL IN PRAMS so they could throw their toys out, i really cannot see who any of this is helping.

In May I:

for TOMORROW (ie thursday) night at the roundhouse.

anyone want? face value (£25 i think)

in other news, i have been doing lots of things that have intersected with things some of you have done and also been up north where we discovered that the best thing in teh world is my three year old nephew singing "the car song":

brother in law: william, sing the car song for us

(me: expecting some cr4ppy kids tv rubbish)

william: here in my car, i feel safest of all, i can lock all my doors, it's the only way to live in cars

i had to applaud.

now, i don't bang on about politics much here (do i? i don't think i do...) but WHAT THE HELL IS THIS:

http://wageconcern.com/

i mean i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ prescott when he's banging on about t'internet and grassroots activism because he's kind of amazingly enthusistic whilst clearly not having that much of a clue, but why on earth are the largest party in the house pretending that the minimum wage might fall under this tiny little tory bill backed by ten known idiots? i mean WTF?

it's just a ruse to get people friended up on fb right? then use them for euroelections/local council elections and The Big One next year, i assume... surely they'll end up putting people off who don't rly understand what they're signing up for, won't they?

hello

i am here now as well it appears...

ETA: as endorsed by INTERNETS superstar [livejournal.com profile] leedy!!!

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, if only so that i don't look like a complete sad act with no friends ([livejournal.com profile] braisedbywolves will be late tomorrow, so i'll have no one to hang around with) who just turns up to jump around like a fool with his tall irish boyfriend...

ANVIL!

dudes, if you have been in a band, or if you have hung around ppl in bands you should rly rly go and see ANVIL! The Story Of Anvil (it doesn't matter what kind of band it was, this stuff is universal) as it is possibly the most touching hour and a half about male bonding and bad touring i have ever seen. the stupid curzon audience was laughing at some of the touching bits but that is because they be heartless meeja hos who do not understand teh power of ROCK!

meg was still harrumphing about it being faked, but i can't see it myself. OK the rock star talking heads at the very begining *may* have had their lines fed to them, given that Slash would still have been living in Stoke at the time (except lars ulrich of course who is one times complete trainspotter about these things), but everything else (particularly the 80s footage of them) seemed genuine. OF COURSE their producer has a big knob in the middle of his mixing desk that goes up to eleven, so do most marshall amps these days and the trip to stonehenge was just a little "b'dum tsch" by the director rather than any hint of full scale fakery.

also, doods, they have a song called METAL ON METAL:
